TGIF Tiki!

Posted by Monika Jezebelle on

Warm weather is here so a trip to Trader Sam's at Disneyland in Anaheim, California seemed like a great idea!

I bought one of the 4 limited edition Gathered Jess Skirts that was available exclusively at Viva Las Vegas two weeks ago. Angela used Alfred Shaheen reissued tiki print to create large patch pockets. These pockets are big enough for my iPhone Plus!

The skirt closes with an invisible zipper and cute retro button. I love the look of these disappearing zippers but hate putting them in when I sew my own projects. I just can't get my needle close enough to the teeth without running over the zipper itself. I better practice more! Mode Merr's zippers are always immaculately stitched.

I tend to be one to jump on Mode Merr's limited edition runs. I know I can wear it to a weekender and not be likely to see girls in my exact article of clothing. I prefer buying bespoke fashion in custom made runs than being one out of thousands wearing an imported piece of fast fashion. Our personalized clothes come out of the Rhode Island studio, not from a mass-produced shipping box! You can feel positive that what you buy has been made ethically by a woman owned business.

We will be releasing more custom runs, they will be posted on our Instagram and Facebook first, and then added to the web store. Once they are gone, we will move onto other fabrics and themes! Customers have mentioned that they want more limited runs, so we are listening.

I thought I'd show how full this Gathered Jess skirt is too. For reference, I'm wearing a medium. It's a bit big on me in the waist, but I was set on getting one of those 4 skirts and this was the smallest available! It's actually perfectly comfortable, especially in the 95 degree heat!

I have to mention, my burnt orange Fluevog shoes were waiting to match a skirt this color for years! I'm admittedly a huge Vog collector, so this fashion blogger will show that most retro outfits have a complementary Fluevog shoe. Sorry not sorry. These rust ones are the Writes Shields with a 4 inch heel. I like unique designs and long-lasting usage, so the whole pin up spike heel shoe thing is not me. Also, I wear an 11, so my dancing feet better stay happy!

My blouse I'm wearing is the Tawdry Top. It's currently on sale for $30 on the website in black. This is a Cotton Lycra with a nice give to it. I'm wearing a medium in this style, I wear small to medium in my Tawdry Tops. I thought I would include a photo that shows the care tag, as these are easy peasy machine washable. The slinky tops are all professionally serged and hemmed with a twin needle like all knits should be.

I'll be doing an OOTD on the blog every once in a while, so newcomers to Mode Merr can see how separate pieces can be incorporated into fashion statements. I have a Mosquito Mojito calling my name, so get inspired by the world around you and wear what makes you feel good.
